Interview With Paloma Martinez Monasterio, CO-FOUNDER OF BAYBE WOMAN

“We must put aside all those prejudices that women often have.”

Paloma Martinez Monasterio— Co-Founder of BayBe Woman, a renowned physiotherapy and physio aesthetic clinic in Madrid, Spain specializing in the comprehensive care of women and babies, is certain that if she had listened to the prejudices that women hold, she would not be a proud mother of seven kids and a successful entrepreneur of a thriving business of ten years and counting.

Nothing stops Paloma. She has managed to create a life tailored perfectly to her. “I am privileged; I have a lot of help,” she tells us. Paloma is very clear about what a woman has to do if she has a dream she aspires to fulfil. She shows that along with self-confidence, her optimistic character, and her ability to listen are also skills to acquire to accomplish one's goals.

Paloma did not always hold the confidence she has right now, there was a time when she had her insecurities. “My husband helped me a lot and supported me because he trusted me. Little by little, I opened up and showed myself that I could”, she confesses.

Over time, Paloma has learned to use her skills in her two roles, as a mother and businesswoman, and turn them into strengths. "Being a mother has helped me a lot in my company, especially at the organizational level, at the level of having more vision, to have a lot of patience, because I consider that owning a business requires you to have a lot of patience and also because I consider the family as a small business, it has helped me a lot to prioritize. I am also lucky that my business has a lot to do with motherhood. So my personal experience has helped me see many needs and implement them in my own business."

“You need good organization, a lot of self-confidence and the ability to move forward without being afraid of failure, because sometimes you also learn from failure, and you don’t have to be afraid of it.”

Baybe was founded along with Paloma’s sister, Belen. “We compliment each other a lot. Each one offers a different aspect of our business. In addition, Belen helped me a lot when I was giving birth to my triplets,”

Paloma completed her degree and moved on to work as a biologist with the intention of doing research in the United States. During this process, she learned that this path would come in the way of her dream of being a mother.

Paloma assures that her life isn’t perfect, “Evidently, you have moments of depression, of thinking that you won’t achieve anything, you are not a good mother, you are not a good businesswoman, that you would not achieve everything." At times like this, her trick is to "try to get some sleep occasionally because when I'm constantly busy, I don't always find time to relax. Taking breaks allows me to step back, gain a fresh perspective, analyze situations, and focus on the positives."

Paloma’s success story of starting a flourishing business of more than ten years continues to inspire women to chase their dreams and learn from their failures. When are you going to start to turn your setbacks into strengths?
